Scope

We were engaged by a client involved in North Sea exploration and production who wished to incorporate decarbonisation insights into their business model. These insights were needed to understand the high-level impact of their activities in order to minimise the adverse effects of their operations, on the environment.

Services

Determination of emissions for the three power options:

1.Gas turbines & generators

2.Line to shore and

3.Offshore wind

Option one included the evaluation of available turbine types, fuel types, including calorific value, and how the turbines may be run.

Option two included the assessment of the carbon intensity of the UK grid and how it will change overtime, with renewable uptake.

Option three evaluated the available capacity of nearby offshore wind turbine plants and how much power could be supplied from renewables.

The conceptual feasibility of options two and three, given the location of the facility, was evaluated with considerations made for the economics of all options.

A benchmarking assessment was completed to show how the client’s emissions intensity compares to UKCS peers, using an equivalent production facility.

Value Added

The scope of work enabled the client to incorporate emission reduction insights at the earliest opportunity. This was able to be used to support the client in achieving their overarching ambition to become a leading independent oil and gas exploration and production company.

The emissions analysis was then ultimately utilised by the client to inform funding groups during the IPO.
